How to find all seven counted tapes
- Clear one active trash heap at a time and inspect the ground between bags, cards, fragments, and other collectibles.
- Pick up a tape as soon as it appears; do not leave it loose while continuing to another heap.
- Before asking Jenny for more trash, sweep the entire active area for every visible tape, card, figurine, outfit, and cereal box.
- After each tape, check the Steam achievement counter as well as the in-game tape display. Record both numbers if they differ.
- Keep a separate manual save, then continue repeatable heap cycles until Melomaniac unlocks.
Melomaniac stuck at 6/7
| What you see | What to do |
|---|---|
| Six tapes and 6/7 | Continue careful heap cycles; no fixed missing map location is established. |
| Seven visible tapes but 6/7 | Preserve the save and keep checking new tape pickups. Multiple players report this mismatch. |
| A later physical tape appears | Pick it up before changing heaps. One documented player says that next pickup triggered Melomaniac. |
| No tape after many cycles | Record the game version and both counts, then report the exact state in Steam Discussions. Do not overwrite alternate saves. |
One player in the reviewed thread described the achievement unlocking on an eighth physical tape when the starter/display tape was included in their count. Other players remained stuck after an unspecified update. Treat the extra pickup as a possible outcome, not a guaranteed fix.
Prevent a tape from disappearing
A separate current discussion reports loose collectible objects disappearing when the next trash heap is activated. The tape thread also includes a player who suspects an early tape was left behind during a heap change.
The safe routine is simple: collect first, change heaps second, and keep a manual save separate from autosave. If the counter is already stuck, do not destroy the only useful save while testing.
Audiotape FAQ
How many audiotapes are needed in KOTAMON?
Steam lists milestones for 1, 5, and 7 audiotapes. Melomaniac is the final public requirement at seven counted finds.
Are KOTAMON audiotapes at fixed map locations?
The reviewed current reports describe tapes appearing through trash-heap cycles rather than a seven-pin map route. No fixed set of seven map coordinates is published.
Why do I have seven tapes but Melomaniac says 6/7?
Multiple current players report the display and Steam counter differing. One player says a later physical tape triggered the achievement, but that is a report—not a guaranteed universal fix.
Should I start a new save for the last tape?
Not as a first step. Preserve the current and alternate save slots because no official recovery procedure is published, and starting over is not a confirmed repair.
